who?In October 1924, a group of men assembled by Dr. Ralph C. Smedley met in the basement of the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, U.S.A., forming a club “to afford practice and training in the art of public speaking and in presiding over meetings, and to promote sociability and good fellowship among its members.” The group took the name “Toastmasters.”  We are a local chapter of Toastmasters International.

what?Today, Toastmasters International is a non-profit organization joyously granting members the opportunity to develop and improve public speaking and leadership abilities via local club meetings, training seminars and speech contests. The experience is challenging and fun! Toastmasters International includes more than 235,000 men and women in more than 12,036 clubs in more than 106 countries.

As the Tri-Valley area continuously grows, Temecula Toastmasters Team 1677 encourages and mentors the formation of new clubs in the area. For example: You may be an entrepreneur fostering the growth of inexperienced colleagues. Toastmasters leadership training is practical and affordable. Perhaps your non-profit organization demands that you eloquently demonstrate a mutually beneficial proposition to potential benefactors. Heck, convenience may even be a factor in starting a club closer to your home.

Could it be that your young Winston Churchill, or your aspiring Maya Angelou desires to create a speaking forum on campus? Toastmasters International has specialized programs for youth groups. Generally, clubs can either be closed (corporate, private ), or open to the public.Your new club chooses the day, time and place for the meetings.

why?Experienced professionals and beginning speakers each benefit from a practical, face-to-face learning program. Whether you're speaking to the board of directors, your customers, your co-workers or your kids, Temecula Toastmasters Team 1677 will help you to improve your communication skills. You'll learn and practice in a friendly, fun, comfortable environment among folks who are there for the same reason you are—to become better communicators. If you're shaking in your boots about the mere thought of public speaking and/or taking on leadership roles, you won't be for long! In fact, you'll be stepping up to the lecturn in no time!

how?At Temecula Toastmasters Team 1677, members learn by speaking to groups and working with others in a supportive environment. Our President's Distinguished Club is made up of 20 to 30 people. We meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. The structure of the meeting is flexible, therefore, each meeting is different, based on attendance.

We encourage you forego the calendar challenge. Rather, participate when you can: NO DETENTION. NO DEMERITS. NO KIDDING. Our Team 1677 chant is: ALWAYS BE READY TO SPEAK! ALWAYS BRING YOUR TRAINING MANUALS TO EVERY MEETING! ALWAYS CHECK THE WEB-BASED ROSTER FOR PARTICIPATORY OPPORTUNITIES -- THIS IS A SELF-PACED, PRO-ACTIVE, LEARNING EXPERIENCE!

Hence, the learning opportunities and the web-based roster will be clearly explained when you become a member. Our goal is to help you progress through and complete your training manuals, as you see fit.

Why? When you begin investing six hours a month to PRACTICE conducting meetings (leaderhip roles), to PRACTICE impromptu speeches, to PRACTICE prepared speeches, and to PRACTICE constructive, diplomatic evaluation of others, your sense of accomplishment soars, especially when you're awarded tangible kudos of completion and advancement for display on your wall of fame.

There's a rhyme and reason for everything we do in our meetings, from signing up for specific duties on a convenient, web-based roster, to conducting the meeting under Robert's Rules of Order, to counting the number of 'ums', 'ahs', and 'ya knows,' to expanding our vocabulary with the 'word of the day', to keeping most things on the clock. Regimented? Sort of. Fun? Most definitely, as we INVITE Mr. Trial and Mrs. Error into our learning lab.

Our members have a great sense of humor, as well, a synergistic, truly affable, certainly goal-oriented TEAM, comprised of members who have attained various levels of public speaking expertise. We love SHARING our insight by mentoring fledgling speakers and fostering leadership tracks.

Our club freqently utilizes basic technology: Wireless internet, a computer with USB ports, a projector and a large screen for PowerPoint presentations. Our Website and email is the basis for communicating to our members and for club operations. The Toastmasters International Website has even more punch, offering a plethora of speaking and leadership educational materials, fancy plaques and promotional gift items, all offered at a discount to members:
